Ik zie dat ik al een tijdje niet meer heb geschreven. Pasconsult bij erg loperig paard. Het is ook ontzettend druk met alle pasconsulten en reparaties maar een aantal pasconsulten blijven je natuurlijk bij. zo werd ik naar een paard geroepen die verhuisd was van stal. Zoals gebruikelijk ga ik eerst een aantal gegevens opschrijven, onderzoek ik het paard, daarna het zadel en ga ik het paard meten en intekenen. https://zadelpasserbrabant.nl/werkwijze-zadelpassen/
Daarna leg ik het bestaande zadel op het paard en met de vorm van de boom was niets mis. Deze volgde de lijn van de rug mooi, Het was ietsje wijd en het paard had iets spier verlies dus met een paar schimmetjes heb ik dat opgelost. Het paard reageerde in mijn ogen niet op het zadel. Niet bij het aankomen met het zadel, niet bij het opleggen en ook niet bij het aansingelen. Wel vond ik dat het paard reageerde op het hoofdstel. Nu ben ik geen hoofdstelfitter maar daar leek niet zoveel mis mee. Toch zag ik daar wel een kleine reactie die het paard niet liet zijn bij het zadel.
Toen zijn we even naar de bak gegaan. We zijn begonnen aan de longe in de longeercirkel. De ruiter ging er op en in stap ging het nog prima. Maar bij het aandraven ging het paard er echt vandoor, en niet een beetje. Echt enorm. Nadat dit jonge paard eindelijk was gestopt met rennen was de jonge amazone er eigenlijk wel klaar mee. Wel had ik in de korte tijd kunnen zien dat het zadel zich wel keurig gedroeg ( in tegenstelling tot het paard zelf )
Nogmaals heb ik het zadel aan alle kanten gevoeld en bekeken en ik kwam tot de conclusie dat het echt niet aan het zadel kon liggen. zo werd het pasconsult bij erg loperig paard wel met een vraagteken afgesloten. Ik heb een vriendin aangeraden die paarden echt heeel goed kan trainen. Wellicht was dat een optie.
Een paar maanden later zag ik filmpjes van het paard dat ik in de winter zo keihard door de bak zag gaan. Op video zag ik echt een compleet ander paard! Wat was nu het probleem? een samenspel van de verhuizing. nu stonden de paarden weer aan huis en….. er bleek nog 1 of 2 wolfstanden te zitten. De tandarts was geweest maar had ze niet gezien. Dus met excuses van de tandarts, want dat had ie moeten zien, maar fouten maken is menselijk en een excuus is al top.
Toch ben ik wel blij dat mijn gevoel me wederom niet in de steek liet, ik zag een reactie op het hoofdstel, dat klopte dus precies.
Het enige dat telt is dat paard en amazone weer blij zijn en lekker samen kunnen trainen. !

I realised I haven’t written anything in quite a while. It’s incredibly busy with all the saddle fitting consultations and repairs, but some appointments really stay with you. Recently, I was called to check a horse that had just moved to a new yard. As always, I started by writing down the basic information, examining the horse, checking the saddle, and then measuring and mapping the horse’s back.

After that, I placed the existing saddle on the horse. The shape of the tree was absolutely fine and followed the horse’s topline nicely. It was slightly wide and the horse had a bit of muscle loss, so I solved that with a few small shims. In my opinion, the horse showed no reaction to the saddle at all—not when I approached with it, not when I put it on, and not during girthing.
However, I did notice the horse reacting to the bridle. I’m not a bridle fitter, but nothing seemed obviously wrong. Still, there was a small reaction that I didn’t see at all with the saddle.
Then we went to the arena. We first put the horse on the lunge in the round pen. The rider got on, and at walk everything was still fine. But the moment she asked for trot, the horse completely took off—and not just a little bit. It bolted hard.
Once this young horse finally stopped running, the young rider understandably had enough.
In the short time I had, I did manage to see that the saddle behaved absolutely correctly (unlike the horse itself).
I once again checked the saddle thoroughly from every angle and came to the conclusion that the problem truly could not be the saddle. So the saddle fitting for this very forward-going horse ended with a bit of a question mark. I recommended a friend who is extremely skilled at training horses—perhaps that was the right next step.
A few months later, I saw videos of the same horse—the one that had raced around the arena like crazy in the winter—and it looked like a completely different animal!
So what had been the problem?
A combination of the stress from moving… and the fact that it still had one or two wolf teeth. The dentist had been before but missed them. He later apologised—he should have seen them, but mistakes happen, and a sincere apology already means a lot.
I was relieved to know that my intuition had been right once again. I saw a reaction to the bridle, and that turned out to be exactly where the problem was.
What matters most is that horse and rider are now happy again—and can enjoy their training together!
